“Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass”. This is exactly what Akshata Murty did in her introductory speech to the Prime Minister at Conservative Party Conference. With charm and resolve, she showed the nation Rishi Sunak’s human side.
Politics has become intensely divisive, so much so that we have lost touch with the simple fact that politicians are people. They have emotions, likes, dislikes, and most importantly, personal motivations which have led them to public service.
Politicians are also often victims of circumstance. Sunak inherited the HS2 mess. Successive Conservative administrations failed to implement root-and-branch reform of the NHS. He arguably had no choice but to retain Jeremy Hunt as Chancellor, whether he wished to or not.
