In the first quarter of 2025, approximately 2.8 million people in the UK were economically inactive due to long-term sickness.

An NHS Confederation report found that in one year, more than 63,000 people went from being economically inactive because they were students, to then being economically inactive due to long-term sickness.

Why? According to the stats, it is mental health.
